HEMET (CNS) – A 39-year-old woman was struck by a vehicle and killed while crossing a street in Hemet, police said Saturday, Sept. 18.
The crash occurred at about 8:20 p.m. Friday when the Hemet woman attempted to cross Stetson Avenue from the north side toward the south side about mid-block between Gilbert Street and Palm Avenue, according to Hemet police Sgt. Dan Reinbolt.
A 2012 Hyundai sedan, driven by a 77-year-old Hemet woman, struck the pedestrian, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The victim was identified as Marivele Cook, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office.
“It is not clear why the pedestrian decided to cross the roadway at this location and the investigation is ongoing,” said Reinbolt.
Investigators said the driver was not suspected of being intoxicated, remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
