WILDOMAR – In celebration of Valentine’s Day, the staff at Animal Friends of the Valleys was surprised Thursday, Feb. 13, with a grant investment in the amount of $250,000 from the Petco Foundation, providing crucial funding to help local pets in need.

The surprise celebration was part of the more than $10 million in grant investments that the Petco Foundation will be committing to animal welfare organizations across the country as part of their annual investment process to find and invest in the most effective lifesaving animal welfare organizations nationwide. The foundation donated grant investments in the amount of $500,000 to two Southern California animal shelters.

The shelter pets and the people who save them at these organizations will also receive thousands of Valentine messages of gratitude for their lifesaving work from pet adopters both locally and across the nation.

At select animal shelter locations, the Petco Foundation, in partnership with BOBS from Skechers and MUTTS, will deliver a Valentine’s celebration of thanks and love to the organization’s staff and volunteers, along with a special gift of BOBS from Skechers shoes for staff members. The big surprise will be the unveiling of the grant investment check for significant funding to help them save more pets in the future.

Animal Friends of the Valleys is dedicated to promoting humane care of animals through education and a humane, proactive animal services program. The mission of San Diego Humane Society is to create a more humane world by inspiring compassion, providing hope and advancing the welfare of animals and people.

The celebrations are part of the Petco Foundation’s “Love Changes Everything” campaign that invites pet lovers to celebrate those who work hard daily to save animal lives by sending them a photo marked with the hashtag #sheltervalentine on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter from Feb. 1-14. These messages will be delivered in person during the special celebrations at some shelters and delivered virtually to thousands of other shelters nationwide on Valentine’s Day.
