The San Bernardino National Forest announced the opening of more of its developed recreational sites and campgrounds which had previously been closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Thurman Flats Picnic Area reopened to the public Wednesday, June 10, while Lake Fulmore and Lake Hemet, both reopened to the public Saturday, June 13. Fern Basin Campground, Keller Peak Yellow Post Sites, Marion Mountain Campground and Pinyon Flat Campground all reopened Friday, June 19.
San Bernardino National Forest is encouraging park visitors to practice self-sufficiency when visiting its recreation sites and asks that visitors come prepared with all the essentials needed for a day trip, including food, emergency supplies and the ability to pack-out trash, according to a news release issued Friday.
“Remember to recreate responsibly,” according to the news release.
Visitors should maintain at least 6 feet distancing from others, should not gather in groups and are asked to follow the latest guidance from state, local and park officials.
Visitors should also communicate with others as they pass, alert trail users of their presence and step aside to let others pass.
“Some services may not be available, so please plan accordingly,” according to the news release.
