MENIFEE (CNS) – A senior citizen who was struck and killed while trying to cross an intersection in Menifee was identified today as a 75-year-old local resident.
John Hamilton was fatally injured about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday at Laguna Vista Drive and Rockport Road, according to the Menifee Police Department.
Capt. Chris Karrer said Hamilton was walking north on Laguna Vista, within the marked crosswalk, when a motorist going west on Rockport hit him. Karrer said the driver had yielded for a stop sign but did not see the senior step into the roadway until it was too late.
“The pedestrian was knocked to the ground and sustained severe head trauma,” the captain said.
The 59-year-old motorist, identified only as a Menifee resident, pulled over and called 911.
Riverside County Fire Department paramedics reached the scene within a few minutes, and the victim was taken to Inland Valley Medical Center in Wildomar, where he died a short time later.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information was asked to contact the police department at 951-723-1690.
