Law enforcement activity in Anza on Thursday was the result of a search for a murder suspect, authorities confirmed, but a sheriff’s department official would not say who the suspect was.

Anza Valley residents posted reports of a high speed chase in the area of Mitchell Road to a local Facebook group around 1:30 p.m. Thursday. A later post described a large number of officers as having been in the area.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department did not return a request for information on the incident until Friday morning, when department spokesperson¬†Robyn Flores said deputies were searching for a “wanted murder suspect” in the area, but the suspect was not located.

According to Flores, detectives were “not releasing any additional information regarding the investigation at this time.”
