RANCHO MIRAGE (CNS) – A shooting involving a Riverside County sheriff’s deputy was reported this afternoon in Rancho Mirage, but it was not immediately clear if anybody was struck by gunfire.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting, which was reported about 2:40 p.m. in the 70000 block of Tamarisk Lane, were not immediately known.
A neighbor told KESQ that he was told by a sheriff’s deputy that a man stabbed a deputy, who then shot the man, although authorities have not confirmed that account. Sgt. Deanna Pecoraro would only confirm that a shooting involving a deputy had occurred.
A mobile command station, along with forensics and other sheriff’s vehicles, lined the stretch of Tamarisk Lane where the shooting was reported.
The roadway remained closed to thru traffic as of 5 p.m. while investigators worked the scene.
