Suspect in fatal hit-n-run crash captured

The California Highway Patrol on Tuesday, Jan. 28 announced they had arrested a man in connection with a three-car collision on Friday, Jan. 3 that resulted in the death of a female Aguanga resident.

Antone Bayard of Anza was arrested at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday without incident in the Desert Hot Springs area for murder and hit and run causing serious or fatal injuries.

“On Friday, Janu. 3, at approximately 6:15 a.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Temecula Area investigated a three-vehicle fatal traffic collision on SR-371 just north of Wilson Valley Road in the unincorporated area of Riverside County,” CHP Officer Mike Lassig reported. “Antone Bayard fled the scene on foot after causing the traffic collision, which took the life of a 63-year-old female from Aguanga.”

According to Officer Lassig, Bayard had been on the run to avoid apprehension by law enforcement and after the crash, a warrant was obtained for Bayard for “187 P.C. (Murder) and 20001 (a) V.C. (Hit and Run causing serious or fatal injuries).”

There were no injuries to law enforcement or Bayard reported during the arrest.
