MURRIETA – The Murrieta-Temecula Republican Assembly, a chapter of the California Republican Assembly, announced the creation and bestowment of an annual award called the MTRA annual Goldbrick Award.

The MTRA will give this award annually to a government entity, elected officeholder, appointed government official, non-government organization or other individual or groups that have demonstrated a profound and noteworthy shirking of duty and responsibility while also demonstrating little to no value despite outward appearances.

The term “goldbrick” is defined by the Merriam Webster Dictionary as a noun meaning “a worthless brick that appears to be of gold,” “something that appears valuable but is actually worthless” or “someone who shirks assigned work” and as verb meaning “to swindle” or “to shirk duty or responsibility.”

The Murrieta-Temecula Republican Assembly bestowed this award to the Murrieta Valley Unified School District in recognition for the board of education’s shirking of duties and responsibilities by its failure to address, remedy and act upon the public’s concerns and outrage over the introduction of highly politicized and sexualized curricula into the school district’s educational programs. The board of education demonstrably meets the Merriam-Webster definitions by both letter and in spirit.

The award was presented to the MVUSD at the Dec. 17 regular board meeting.

The MVUSD Board of Education is composed of the following elected trustees; Oscar Rivas, Kris Thomasian, Ken Dickson, Linda Lunn, Paul Diffley and appointed Superintendent Patrick Kelley.

All of these high-ranking school district officials neglected to address and take into consideration the tax-paying public’s concerns about the teaching of highly politicized and sexualized curricula despite the voiced protestations by members of the public at recent school board meetings.

This award was created by the MTRA to highlight to the public instances of mendacity, cowardice, waste and abuse by public officials and entities. The actual award is a brick spray-painted gold with an affixed plaque. This award is given out in the same vein as the annual Congressional Pig Book published by Citizens Against Government Waste and is also inspired by the late Sen. William Proxmire’s Golden Fleece Award. The MTRA will announce an annual winner of The MTRA annual Goldbrick Award each December for the calendar year until further notice.
