The Temecula Valley Unified School District’s governing board recognized local PTA members, approved a new class and approved job descriptions for two new positions in the district at its Feb. 18 meeting.

In honor of Parent Teacher Association’s Founders Day, which was Feb. 17, the board approved a resolution to “recognize February as TVUSD’s PTA month and to celebrate the Temecula Valley Council PTA members who have contributed more than 165,000 volunteer hours yearly to benefit the students of TVUSD.”

The board approved a new “Critical Studies of Comics” course at Temecula Valley High School. The course has University of California Office of the President Doorways approval, meaning it has been deemed college preparatory.

Students will “use critical reading of comics to critique the purpose and style of comics as a form of sociopolitical discourse, ultimately applying critical works on the comics medium to exemplar media in order to assess validity of the arguments toward the medium’s form and function,” according to a staff report.

Board members also voted to approve a job description for an autism behavior assistant lead position, who will be responsible for training autism behavior assistants. The district is seeking to hire two people to fill the new position, at a cost of about $45,000 per person, staff told the board.

Additionally, the board approved a revised job description for a new floater custodian position which will allow the district to fill custodian absences. The district is seeking to hire two people for that position as well, with a salary range of $36,000 to $50,000, according to information from a staff report.
