MENIFEE – Riverside County Sheriff’s Department investigators have identified a suspect in the death of a man found suffering from a head injury last month on the side of Highway 74 in Menifee, the department announced.
The victim, 60-year-old Jose Gonzalez of Menifee, was hospitalized for more than a week before he succumbed to his injuries on June 1.
On May 20, deputies from the sheriff’s Perris Station received word of a “man down” on Highway 74 near Trumble Road, just east of Interstate 215, according to sheriff’s homicide Sgt. Rick Espinoza. That’s where deputies found Gonzalez suffering from serious injuries, and he was taken to the local hospital where he later died.
The day of Gonzalez’s death, Espinoza announced that a warrant had been issued for the arrest of Richard Adam Lopez, 32, also of Menifee, who is suspected of murdering Gonzalez.
Espinoza asked members of the public to call 911 if they learn of Lopez’s whereabouts, but warned that no one should attempt to make contact with Lopez.
No further information on the murder investigation were available. The sheriff’s department did not provide a photo of Lopez.
