The cities and Wildomar and Lake Elsinore are the recipients of grants through the Office of Traffic Safety designed to aid in efforts to reduce deaths and injuries on city roads.
The grants, awarded to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department and earmarked for each city, total $36,112 for Wildomar and $57,847 for Lake Elsinore.
According to Sergeant Brad Foster, the one-year grant is for the 2021 federal fiscal year, which runs from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30, 2021.
The grant will fund a variety of traffic safety programs, including: Patrols with emphasis on alcohol and drug-impaired driving prevention, awareness and education of California’s hands-free cell phone law, education of traffic rights for bicyclists and pedestrians, and education of primary causes of crashes: excess speed, failure to yield, failure to stop at stop signs/signals, improper turning/lane changes.
Funding for this program was provided through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
