Multi-Vehicle Collision Sends Car Down Embankment on I-15 in Escondido

ESCONDIDO, Calif. – A chaotic multi-vehicle collision disrupted traffic on Interstate 15 Thursday night after a vehicle reportedly careened off the freeway and through vegetation near the El Norte Parkway exit.

The incident began around 7:45 p.m. on the northbound I-15 near the El Norte Parkway off-ramp. California Highway Patrol (CHP) logs indicate that a white Chevy Camaro went off the freeway embankment, traveling through bushes before landing near the off-ramp.

According to initial reports provided to the CHP, a black BMW was observed driving recklessly at high speeds shortly before the collision. It remains unclear if the BMW was directly involved in the impact or if it fled the scene.

Emergency responders arrived to find a complex scene spread across several distinct locations. A black 2010 Nissan Versa was located on the right shoulder of the main freeway lanes. A gray Honda Civic with damage to its right side was discovered in the center divider north of the initial collision site. The Chevy Camaro came to rest near the off-ramp after leaving the roadway.

“We have one vehicle on the northbound off-ramp to El Norte… continue all units and investigate,” reported Engine 137 via radio traffic. Fire units, including Truck 131, held traffic south of El Norte Parkway to manage the scene and assess the occupants.

One person involved reported hitting their head during the crash, prompting a request for an ambulance. The exact extent of the injuries is currently unknown, but CHP logs noted that all parties were accounted for by 8:16 p.m.

Tow trucks were dispatched to recover three disabled vehicles from the roadway and the off-ramp. The cause of the collision remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
