WILDOMAR Family Displaced After Electric Vehicle Crashes Into Home

WILDOMAR, Calif. —

A family of six was displaced Friday afternoon after an electric vehicle careened off the roadway and slammed into their home, severing water lines and compromising the structure’s integrity.

The collision was reported at 12:06 p.m. in the 22200 block of Summer Sage Way, near the intersection of Sunnybrook Drive. According to the Riverside County Fire Department, the first arriving engine company reported a single vehicle had struck the residence, resulting in heavy damage.

Firefighters arriving on the scene found the electric sedan embedded in the attached garage of the single-story home. The force of the impact sent the vehicle through the exterior wall and into the structure’s plumbing system, shearing the main water pipes and causing immediate flooding within the garage.

Responders immediately established “Summer Incident Command” and began search and rescue operations. All six occupants of the home were evacuated safely and were uninjured.

The driver of the vehicle required medical attention. According to a statement from the Riverside County Fire Department, the driver was transported to a local hospital with unknown injuries.

Due to the severity of the damage, the Incident Commander requested a Technical Rescue Team (TRT) to stabilize the building. The collision compromised the garage door header, requiring the installation of emergency shoring struts to prevent a secondary collapse while the vehicle was removed.

Technicians from SoCal Gas and the Wildomar Building and Safety Department were dispatched to the scene to assess utility hazards and structural viability. Officials determined the residence was unsafe to occupy, and the home was “red-tagged.” The American Red Cross has been requested to assist the displaced residents with temporary housing.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
