A vegetation fire near the intersection of Fruitvale and Sanderson avenues prompted road closures and a swift emergency response Wednesday.

Initial reports of the fire were received at 2:39 p.m., drawing local fire crews and law enforcement to the scene. Firefighters successfully halted the forward progression of the blaze after it consumed 4 acres of vegetation.

The Hemet Police Department issued a public alert, asking residents to “avoid the area” and “use alternate routes” so emergency responders could work safely. Authorities indicated they will provide an update when the roads are reopened to regular traffic.

Fire crews are expected to remain on the scene for an additional one to two hours to conduct mop-up operations and ensure all hot spots are fully extinguished.

At this time, there is no official word on whether the incident resulted in anyone with injuries of unknown severity.
