Rescue Crews Respond to Fallen Hiker Near Boulder Basin Campground

Emergency crews and an air ambulance responded to a medical emergency Sunday morning after a hiker fell near Black Mountain Peak and the Boulder Basin Campground in Riverside County.

The incident was reported at approximately 9:05 a.m. in a remote area off the Black Mountain Truck Trail. First responders immediately initiated an inaccessible rescue operation to reach the fallen individual, who is experiencing a medical emergency with injuries of unknown severity.

Due to the challenging terrain, CAL FIRE Helicopter 601—which is equipped with specialized hoist capabilities—was deployed to assist ground crews in reaching the patient. Authorities also requested an air ambulance to stage at a designated local landing zone to ensure rapid transport once the hiker is successfully extracted.

The ongoing rescue operation is being managed under the Mountain Incident Command in Riverside County.
