Firefighters responded Saturday afternoon to a vegetation fire, called the Springs Fire, burning along Interstate 15 near the Interstate 215 split in Murrieta, prompting a SigAlert and traffic delays.
The fire was reported at approximately 1:48 p.m. along the southbound side of Interstate 15 near the I-215 split, according to PulsePoint and the California Highway Patrol. It burned an estimated two acres and firefighters were able to save a memorial on the site from burning.
CHP dispatch logs indicate the fire was burning on an embankment adjacent to the freeway, with flames and smoke visible near the southbound lanes.
