A pursuit of a stolen vehicle that began in Perris ended in a crash Wednesday night in Escondido, leaving the suspect and another driver hospitalized, authorities said.
At about 8:33 p.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office Perris Station were alerted to a stolen vehicle last seen traveling south on Interstate 215 in Perris, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies located the vehicle on I-215 near Harley Knox Boulevard and attempted to stop it, but the driver failed to yield, and a pursuit began, RSO Sgt. Martinez said.
The pursuit continued south into San Diego County, eventually reaching Escondido. The stolen vehicle became disabled near North Broadway and East Washington Avenue after colliding with another vehicle, which Escondido Lt. Byler described as an SUV.
The suspect was taken into custody following the collision and transported to a local hospital in stable condition, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
The driver of the SUV was also transported to a local hospital in stable condition. Two people in total were injured and hospitalized in the crash.

Escondido police Lt. Byler said two people had to be extricated following the collision. Escondido Fire Department Engine 137 and Rescue Ambulance 133 responded to the scene and transported the injured.
Escondido police were not involved in the pursuit and became involved only after the collision, Byler said. The Escondido Police Department subsequently took over the investigation into the crash.
A San Diego County Sheriff’s Office ASTREA helicopter assisted with the incident for a short time, according to San Diego Sheriff’s Lt. Hernandez.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said the investigation into the pursuit remains ongoing and no additional details were immediately available.
