Chia Fire Sparks in Riverside County, Poses Immediate Threat to Structures

Update as of 1:30pm The fire has been mapped at 50.8 acres by FIRIS OES Intel 24. All Tankers have now been released, per air attack.

Update as of 1:04 the fire is now at 35 acres per Cal fire. Highway 371 is closed between Bradley and Wilson Valley. 1 Additional type 1 copter has been requested by air attack.

A wildfire, dubbed the Chia Fire, ignited in Riverside County on Thursday afternoon, prompting immediate structure protection efforts and a significant aerial response.

As of 12:30 p.m., the fire had grown to 10 acres and was burning at a moderate rate of spread through grass and brush. According to incident command updates, there is an immediate structure threat directly in front of the head of the fire.

Air Attack officials reported the fire has the potential to expand to 100 acres within 30 to 45 minutes, with a total potential of reaching several hundred acres.

In response to the growing threat, fire officials requested immediate assistance, including two additional air tankers, three additional type-3 wildland engines, “immediate need” engines, and a water tender.
