Dorland Mountain Arts “Art in Motion!” showcases creativity and supports Parkinson’s community

Dorland Mountain Arts welcomed the community Sunday, Oct. 4, for “Art in Motion!,” its second annual open house celebrating the arrival of autumn with art, music and an opportunity to experience the unique creative community at Dorland.

Presented in partnership with the Parkinson’s Association of San Diego, the event featured an art exhibit and sale showcasing work by local artists and others affected by Parkinson’s disease.

The afternoon featured gourmet finger foods, beverages and music performed by members of the Temecula Valley Youth Symphony. Guests mingled with artists, browsed the exhibits and had the opportunity to purchase displayed artwork and additional fine art created by community artists. Visitors also enjoyed strolling the grounds and taking in the surrounding views.

Katinka Clementsmith gave a presentation about the Parkinson’s Association of San Diego, while Dorland Community Program Coordinator Noreen Ring shared information about Dorland and its Residency and Associate Artist programs.

Steve Steinberg with the Parkinson’s Association of San Diego Art Outreach spoke of the organization’s mission and goals. Many of the artists whose work was exhibited are affected by the disease, but don’t allow it to stifle their creativity.

Donations were presented to support Dorland’s fund to build an additional cottage on the grounds, helping further its mission of providing opportunities for artists to create and share their work.

Curtis Horton, Dorland board president, accepted a donation from Rebecca Farnbach and Jim Richerson from the Roripaugh Foundation. Jim McLaughlin with Temecula Valley Youth Symphony also accepted a donation from Farnbach and Richerson, representing both the Roripaugh Foundation and Temecula Historical Society.

Author and Associate Artist at Dorland Mountains Arts Trond Hildahl presented volunteer Ann Hickey a copy of Letters, an artist anthology from Temecula Valley Writers and Illustrators. Hildahl edited the book, his wife and Dorland board member Sacha Hope had three illustrations featured, while Janice Cipriani-Willis wrote the forward and juried the art.

“Art in Motion!” offered the community a relaxed afternoon of art, music and fellowship while highlighting the artists and programs that make Dorland Mountain Arts a special part of the local creative community.
