As of press time, the Murrieta city clerk’s office already has 13 qualified applications from residents seeking to fill the city council vacancy left by former Councilman Randon Lane with more being accepted though Sept. 15. Lane left his post on the city council Aug. 31, to take up a new position with the U.S. Department of Transportation in Washington. He was appointed to his new post by President Donald Trump and will remain there for the next 18-months. Lane, who has served the community for years and was active in many state, county and city commissions and agencies, still had more than a year to serve on the council since his last election in 2017.
