Cluster of small fires break out alongside 215 freeway

PERRIS (CNS) - A cluster of spot fires erupted on Tuesday, Sept. 24 just off of Interstate 215 in Perris, altogether burning close an acre before crews got them partially contained. The non-injury blazes were reported about 4:10 p.m. on the northbound side of the freeway, near Nuevo Road, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Multiple engine crews were sent to the location and encountered the spots in medium grass, not threatening traffic. However, the California Highway Patrol shut down the slow lane to provide space for firefighters to operate safely. Within 20 minutes, crews were making steady progress encircling the fires, which were expected to be fully contained shortly after 5 p.m. The cause was under investigation.
