Firefighters knock down 18-acre brush fire on Camp Pendleton

CAMP PENDLETON — A brush fire that broke out before 2 p.m. on Camp Pendleton was knocked down and contained to about 18 acres a short time later. The fire shut down a stretch of Stewart Mesa Road but never threatened any structures and nobody was injured, according to officials. Smoke was visible to nearby communities.
