Fire breaks out at home in French Valley

FRENCH VALLEY - A fire engulfed a French Valley home and ignited a cache of ammunition Monday afternoon, sending bullets flying and complicating firefighters' efforts to contain the blaze.The fire was reported at 5:09 p.m. at a residence on Galleano Avenue near Maddalena Road, according to information from Cal Fire Riverside.The 2,000 square-foot home was “well-involved” in the fire when firefighters arrived on scene, Cal Fire said on Twitter.Arriving engine crews encountered rounds of ammo detonating, with projectiles flying to the east of the property, according to reports from the scene.The bursts of ammunition led to numerous 911 calls about explosions going off in the area, authorities said. The California Highway Patrol was among agencies that went to investigate.
