Pedestrian struck by vehicle, killed in Lakeland Village

LAKE ELSINORE (CNS) - A woman was fatally injured Tuesday when she stepped into a crosswalk against a red light near Lake Elsinore and was struck by a car, according to the California Highway Patrol. Officer Mike Lassig said the fatality occurred about 4:15 a.m. at Blackwell and Grand avenues, in the unincorporated community of Lakeland Village. The pedestrian was preparing to cross Grand, going west on Blackwell, when a 78-year-old Lake Elsinore man at the wheel of a 2005 Mazda 3 approached the intersection, going northbound on Grand, Lassig said. The woman was observed walking "into the crosswalk against a red light while wearing headphones in both ears,'' he said. Lassig said the motorist did not have enough time to stop and struck the woman, whose name was not immediately released.
