Residents and visitors to the city of Temecula gathered at Sam Hicks Monument Park to celebrate the winter solstice Saturday, Dec. 21. Also called hibernal solstice, during the winter solstice the sun travels the shortest path through the sky, leading to the shortest day and longest night of the year. The city’s second annual event included a festive musical performance by the Murrieta Valley High School chamber choir, refreshments and a special appearance of the jolly old elf, Santa Claus.
