SAN JACINTO (CNS) – A man was gunned down on a San Jacinto street, and the killer remained at large today.

The shooting happened about 4:50 p.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of Drake Drive, near Newcastle Way, on the north end of the city, according to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Ken Thurm.

Residents repotted hearing gunfire in the area, and patrol deputies reached the location within minutes and found “evidence of a shooting,” but no victim or suspects, Thurm said.

A short time later, the mortally wounded man was spotted lying near the intersection of Devonshire Avenue and State Street, about a block from the Hemet Police Department, the sergeant said.

“Medical aid was summoned. However, he was pronounced deceased on scene,” Thurm said. “It was determined the subject had come from the area of where the shots fired call originated.”

The sheriff’s Central Homicide Unit was investigating the shooting with the assistance of Hemet police.

Anyone with information was urged to contact homicide detectives at 951-955-2777.
