RIVERSIDE (CNS) – Lane closures are planned tonight and every other night this week going into the weekend on the Riverside (91) Freeway to permit crews to repair an overpass in Riverside that was damaged when it was struck by a truck.

According to Caltrans, the work will be concentrated on the eastbound 91, between McKinley and Pierce streets.

District 8 spokeswoman Terri Kasinga said crews will be making repairs to the underside of the Buchanan Street overcrossing, from which pieces were knocked loose as a result of a “high hit load.”

Between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., tonight, at least three lanes will be out of service on the eastbound side. During the latter hours of the closure, four of five lanes will be shut down, Kasinga said. The same closures are planned during identical hours Tuesday-Saturday.

“All traffic will be permitted to use the HOV lane during the lane closures,” Kasinga said. “Motorists are advised to add a little time to their drive or use alternate routes to avoid delays.”

The work is scheduled to wrap up in the predawn hours Sunday.

The truck hit the bridge about noon on April 10, shearing away structural components that prompted Caltrans to close the overpass until repairs are completed.

California Highway Patrol officers partially closed the freeway that afternoon to clear debris.

The trucker was not injured, and the CHP’s investigation is ongoing.
