TEMECULA (CNS) – The Pechanga Resort Casino’s 18-hole PGA-grade golf course was back in business today, with the links open to amateur and seasoned players, under restrictions mandated by the Riverside County Department of Public Health.

The tribal green — Journey at Pechanga — is one of several in the county, along with others in the Coachella Valley, that have returned to operation since county CEO George Johnson and Public Health Officer Dr. Cameron Kaiser decided a week ago to amend a prior health order issued earlier this month barring any golfing amid coronavirus mitigation efforts.

“Reopening of golf courses throughout the county is encouraging, and we know a lot of golfers will be excited to play while also abiding by the strict code of conduct for best health practices during this time,” Pechanga Development Corp. President Jared Munoa said.

“Although we are able to reopen Journey on a limited basis and get some of our team back to work, we have no further plans at this point to reopen any other part of Pechanga Resort Casino until it is abundantly safe to do so,” he said. “The health and safety of our team members and guests has always been our guiding principle, and it is more applicable today than ever before.”

The tribe shuttered the 7,219-yard-long course on March 16, well before the county’s closure order went into effect.

“Golfers at Journey will be required to wear face coverings, practice social distancing of six feet or more from other individuals, and ride one person per golf cart,” according to a resort statement. “All golf carts will be thoroughly cleaned and sanitized before each use. Journey at Pechanga staff are required to follow county mandates and will wear protective gloves and face coverings.”

The entire 18-hole course underwent a cleansing process before it was reopened, according to resort officials. The course will be open daily from 7:30 a.m. to sunset, and all tee time reservations must be made in advance, either via phone at 951-770-8210, or the internet at https://www.pechanga.com/indulge/journey.
