RIVERSIDE (CNS) – The mercury could reach the triple digits again today in the Coachella Valley, then conditions will cool slightly over the weekend before heating up again next week, according to the National Weather Service.

A trough of low pressure over the eastern Pacific Ocean will start moving near the West Coast today, ushering in a slight dip in temperatures throughout Riverside County until Tuesday, forecasters said.

Wind speeds will pick up this afternoon in the county mountains, the San Gorgonio Pass and the Coachella Valley.

Winds out of the west will be between 15-30 mph today, with gusts possibly reaching 45 mph, according to the NWS. Conditions are not expected to change much over the weekend, but the winds will ease up by Sunday night.

High temperatures today are forecast to reach 100 in the Coachella Valley, 85 in the San Gorgonio Pass near Banning, 83 in Hemet, 82 degrees in Riverside and Lake Elsinore, 78 in Temecula and 70 in Idyllwild.

Another warm up is expected starting on Tuesday, with high temperatures in the Coachella Valley projected to top out at 108 on Thursday, forecasters said.
