RIVERSIDE (CNS) – Conditions will be cool and windy today in most parts of Riverside County — a sharp contrast to the scorching temperatures the region saw last week, according to the National Weather Service.

Patchy fog in the Riverside metropolitan area could result in some light drizzle this morning as a ridge of high pressure is replaced by a trough of low pressure over southern California, forecasters said.

A cooling trend will continue through Wednesday, then temperatures are expected to warm up heading into the weekend, according to the NWS. The low pressure could even bring light rain in the Riverside metropolitan area Tuesday night through Wednesday morning, but the chance is slim.

Winds out of the west are expected to be between 20-30 mph today, with gusts possibly reaching 45 mph near the desert and mountain slopes.

Gusts in the Riverside metropolitan area will top out at 25 mph today.

High temperatures today are forecast to reach 96 in the Coachella Valley, 81 in the San Gorgonio Pass, 80 in Hemet, 79 in Riverside, 78 in Lake Elsinore, 75 in Temecula and 66 in Idyllwild.

Highs in the Coachella Valley will drop to the mid-80s to low-90s on Tuesday and Wednesday, then rise to the mid- to high-90s on Friday.
