Man charged with carjacking Elsinore motorist at gunpoint

A 25-year-old man accused of stealing a Lake Elsinore motorist’s vehicle at gunpoint was charged Thursday, June 18, with armed carjacking. Dominic Michael Melgoza of Oceanside, who is being held in lieu of $130,000 bail at the Cois M. Byrd Detention Center, is slated to make his initial court appearance Friday at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta. According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Brad Foster, about 10 p.m. Monday, June 15, a man was parked on Riverside Drive, near Lakeshore Drive, when the defendant allegedly approached him and leveled a black handgun at him, ordering the driver to relinquish the keys to his car, which he did. “The victim fled his vehicle, and the suspect drove westbound on Riverside,” Foster said. “The victim immediately called 911.” Acc
