What is a legal notice?

When starting a new business, changing a legal name, disposing of an estate or even holding an election, published legal notices are required by law. For decades, it has been the preferred method of alerting the public to things occurring in the community.For instance, state law requires that the public must be made aware of the name of a new business. This notice is accomplished by publishing a copy of the fictitious name statement in a newspaper of general circulation in the county in which the principal place of business is located.Not every newspaper is allowed to accept these notices.
