Firefighters contain 3-acre blaze near Vail Lake

TEMECULA — CalFire Riverside County Fire Department air tankers were able to contain a three-acre fire that broke out just before 3 p.m. Monday, Aug. 3 south of Vail Lake.The fire was located between Highway 79 and Vail Lake Road, about two miles east of Temecula.Reports from the scene indicated that the fire had the potential to consume up to 300 acres if it jumped Highway 79, but no structures were immediately threatened.By 4 p.m., CalFire Riverside County Fire Department reported that the forward rate of spread had been stopped to approximately three acres.April Newman, Public Safety Information Specialist, said resources will remain committed to the location for approximately three hours.
