Charges expected against felon who ‘inadvertently’ killed Hemet senior

BANNING (CNS) - Felony charges are expected to be filed Wednesday, Oct. 14 against a convicted felon accused of mishandling a firearm that discharged and fatally wounded a Hemet senior for whom he was providing caregiving services. John Reza Jowkar, 37, of Hemet was arrested Friday after the shooting at a residence on Via Linda Drive. Jowkar was booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of a controlled substance and possession of a gun registered to another party. He's being held in lieu of $500,000 bail. Hemet police Lt. Michael Arellano said the investigation is ongoing, and it is not certain what charges the Riverside County District Attorney's Office may file. According to Arellano, patrol
