BANNING (CNS) - Felony charges are expected to be filed Wednesday, Oct. 14 against a convicted felon accused of mishandling a firearm that discharged and fatally wounded a Hemet senior for whom he was providing caregiving services.
John Reza Jowkar, 37, of Hemet was arrested Friday after the shooting at a residence on Via Linda Drive.
Jowkar was booked into the Byrd Detention Center in Murrieta on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, being a felon in possession of a controlled substance and possession of a gun registered to another party. He's being held in lieu of $500,000 bail.
Hemet police Lt. Michael Arellano said the investigation is ongoing, and it is not certain what charges the Riverside County District Attorney's Office may file.
