The story of the prodigal son is one of the better-known biblical stories, and I think for good reason.The story opens with a father with two sons. The older son is hard-working, faithful to his father and a model son, though he has a dark side. The second son is a little different. He comes on the scene doing something rather crass and bold. He said, in so many words, “Father, I don’t want to have to wait till you’re dead. I want my inheritance now.”He takes it, leaves his family and goes off to waste his inheritance on what the author describes as “wild living,” which included, among other things, hiring out prostitutes.Eventually, the money is spent, his friends abandon him and he is starving.
