Felon accused of gunning down man near Hemet makes first court appearance

MURRIETA (CNS) - A felon accused of shooting a man on a rural property south of Hemet made his initial court appearance Wednesday on murder and other charges.Derrick Anthony Edgerson, 45, of Hemet was arrested last Thursday after the alleged attack in the 40500 block of Newport Road, near Girard Street, about a mile east of Diamond Valley Lake.In addition to murder, Edgerson is charged with kidnapping, firearm assault, being a convicted felon in possession of a gun and sentence-enhancing gun and great bodily injury allegations.The defendant appeared before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Judith Clark, who appointed him a public defender and scheduled his arraignment for April 12 at the Southwest Justice Center in Murrieta.The judge set bail at $1 million.
