Menifee nonprofit provides service dogs to those in need

A Menifee nonprofit organization has been training and providing veterans with service dogs since 1989.Canine Support Teams Inc. was founded by Carole Roquemore, who was diagnosed with polio as a child.“My disability is progressive, so back in the day I was in a manual wheelchair and very capable of doing some pretty heavy-duty dog training,” Roquemore said. “I received a service dog, and I had to train it after I got it because it didn’t know how to do what I needed it to do.”When she went out, she said she received questions asking where she got her dog.“It kind of accelerated into ‘Can you train my dog?’” she said. “I pursued outside sources, thinking the world is wonderful and they do things for free.
