AB 26 bad for police

Dear Editor, California bill AB 26 regarding peace officers: use of force would only further castrate our state and local law enforcement with too many onerous restrictions on police officers when they are making split-second decisions in highly stressful emergency situations. But, if this bill is to become state law then let’s at least add an amendment outlawing the use of force by police anytime a California state or local elected politician comes under violent attack and/or assault. Instead, police officers should be mandated to immediately de-escalate the situation by backing away and attempting to establish dialogue with the perpetrators.
