City of Hemet fails to renew Valley-Wide contract
Hemet officials will not be renewing a contract with Valley-Wide Recreation and Park District to manage the James Simpson Community Center. Effective July 1, the city will no longer partner with the district that has rented rooms to clubs, nonprofits and community members since 2013. While the city’s website states providing recreational programming and services is valuable and critically important for residents “to connect and engage with one another at the city-owned community center,” it will remain closed.Like many other facilities, the Simpson Center was shuttered last spring due to COVID-19 restrictions. The city cites that during this time, it received reports of alleged accessibility concerns under the Americans with Disabilities Act.“The city is committed to provid
