HEMET – Remember the good old days, when you would go to the drive-in with your friends or family to watch the newest movie release? Depending on your age, maybe you never experienced a drive-in movie, but some of our youngest students in the valley can check this off their bucket list. Thanks to Ramona Elementary School’s staff and PTA, nearly 200 people attended a makeshift drive-in movie experience, complete with vintage cars, family fun and fresh air.

Ramona started their school year off with a bang Tuesday, Sept. 14, by holding its first family event of the new school year. Families gathered on the school’s blacktop to watch a movie hosted by Ramona’s PTA. The week before, staff handed out large boxes for each student at dismissal. Then, as a family project, each family decorated their box to look like a vehicle and used it during the event to complete the drive-in experience.

“I remember attending drive-in movie nights at my own children’s school when they were in elementary school. I can still remember the pink Corvette we made for my daughter and the camouflage Jeep we made for my son,” Principal Carol Robilotta said.

Students and their families could be seen smiling and laughing throughout the event. Basking in the beautiful end-of-summer air and the connection only a school community environment can provide.

Thank you to Ramona Elementary staff and PTA for continuing to look for fun ways to engage the school community while abiding by local and state public health directives.
