PERRIS (CNS) - A fire today on the roof of a Perris elementary school prompted an evacuation of the building, but no one was injured.The blaze was reported about 4:30 p.m. on the campus of May Ranch Elementary School at 900 E. Morgan St., according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Responding crews encountered smoke and flame originating from an air conditioning unit on the roof of the main school building.Students, teachers and staff safely evacuated the structure shortly before firefighters arrived, according to officials. Crews quickly contained the fire, which did not extend to the interior of the building, according to reports from the scene. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
