Code-protected cards aim to curtail online theft in state’s biggest anti-hunger program RIVERSIDE COUNTY — State officials have begun sending new Electronic Benefits Transfer cards to households that participate in CalFresh and CalWORKs programs in an effort to curtail the theft of food and cash benefits from low-income and working-class families.More than 50,000 Riverside County households whose cards were issued before October 2018, and nearly a million customers statewide, will be getting their replacement EBT cards throughout March.Additional security protection has been added to the magnetic strip on the back of the card to provide heightened protection against online fraud and skimming.
