Man accused of murder near Hemet arrested

A 43-year-old man accused of murdering another man near Hemet was jailed last week in lieu of $1 million bail. Deputies responded to a report of a man shot in a vehicle at 11:10 a.m. Friday, April 29, near Dartmouth Street and Collegian Way, about a block from Hemet High School in the unincorporated community of East Hemet, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department. When deputies arrived at the scene, they found Matthew Lunsford, 37, dead inside a vehicle, sheriff’s officials said. Witnesses told investigators they saw another vehicle fleeing the scene and a description of the vehicle was transmitted to the California Highway Patrol.
