
The CIF Southern Section softball and baseball playoffs are underway, as competition opened this week with wild card games where necessary. After Wednesday, May 4, first-round games will begin Thursday, May 5, in Division’s 2, 4, 6 and Division’s 1, 3, 5, 7 on Friday, May 6. The championship finals are slated for Friday and Saturday, May 20-21 at Goodwin Field at Cal State Fullerton.
All games with the exception of championship games are scheduled to begin at 3:15 p.m. unless otherwise noted. All championship games from Goodwin Field will be streamed live by The NFHS Network and Bally Sports.
Here is a look at what happened so far with wild card baseball games.
In Division 4, Elsinore, the No.2 seed from the Inland Valley League, beat Alhambra 4-1 to advance to first round action against Tahquitz Thursday, May 5. The Tigers will be put ot the test as the host Titans are the Mountain Pass League champions and have won 18 straight games. Also in Division 4, La Salle beat Glendora 7-1. Even though they are not local teams, per say, La Salle will now move on to face Hemet in their first-round game on Thursday as well.
In the Division 7 wild card race, three games will take place today that make an impact on first round action this Friday. This is the schedule:
– Wild-card games, Wednesday, May 4, 3:15 p.m.
C: Coachella Valley 7, Redlands Adventist 0
G: Mountain View 15, Anza Hamilton 8
I: Nuview Bridge 14, California Lutheran 1
– First round, Friday, May 6, 3:15 p.m.
Coachella Valley at Temecula Prep (Game to be played at Linfield Christian School)
Nuview Bridge at Cornerstone Christian
On the prep softball wild card side of things, the only game that mattered locally took place yesterday between West Valley, the Mountain Pass League No. 3 seed, and Arrowhead Christian of the Ambassador League (No. 3 seed). Arrowhead Christian defeated the Lady Mustangs 16-3 and will now move on to the first round where they will face Indio Thursday, May 5. Lakeside, Elsinore, and San Jacinto Valley Academy also play in the opening round that same day.
