With the Fairview Fire continuing to burn near Hemet, the resulting smoke, combined with a ninth straight day of triple digit temperatures, has caused some postponements and relocations of contests involving Valley News area teams. 

So far the deadly blaze has burned 23919 acres with two fatalities, one severe injury and seven structures destroyed. At last report containment was listed at just 5%.  

The following list of canceled, or rescheduled games is what has been reported to the Valley News as of Thursday evening. 

The Ramona at Temescal Canyon JV football game scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 8, was canceled. The Titans freshman team was scheduled to visit Ramona and at last report, that game was still a go. 

Linfield Christian was scheduled to visit Murrieta Mesa for a non-league tennis match which has been canceled. The Rams will now host Hemet Friday afternoon in a non-league tennis match which was originally scheduled to be at Hemet according to Rams Athletic Director John Broussard.  

Lower-level football games in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District were also canceled as a result. 

Friday’s West Valley at Temescal Canyon girls volleyball match is still a go according to Mustangs coach Shaun Pulsipher. 

Saturday’s Tahquitz at Linfield Christian football game is still a go. With all Hemet Unified School District campuses closed into next week the Titans are practicing Friday at Fox Field (Linfield Christian’s home) according to online reports.

Updated 11:00 P.M. Thursday 9/8…

  • Temecula Valley Unified School District administrators have announced that with Wine Country now under evacuation orders all campuses will be closed Friday 9/9. Football games involving Vista del Lago at Great Oak and Temecula Valley at Chaparral are now in doubt. Also in doubt is Chaparral (D2) and Temecula Valley’s (D1) participation in the Dave Mohs volleyball tournament in Orange County. The Pumas are 9-0 heading into play this weekend with Southwestern League openers set for Monday, Sept. 12.

  • Linfield Christian has announced they will be closing campus Friday, Sept. 9. The Lions were scheduled to host Tahquitz in a non-league football game Saturday evening.

  • Chaparral volleyball coach Gale Johnson remarked via text that her team still intends to compete at this weekend’s Dave Mohs volleyball tournament in Orange County. The Pumas are 9-0 and participating in Division 2  in this tournament. The Pumas will open pool play at 3pm with matches against Carlsbad & Laguna Hills.
  • Rancho Christian announced overnight that they will also be closing campus today. The Eagles football team (2-1) is currently scheduled to visit Ontario Christian (3-0) for a 7pm kickoff.

  • Temecula Valley volleyball coach Neemias Costa said via text that the Golden Bears still intend to travel to the Dave Mohs volleyball tournament starting today. Temecula Valley is in a pool with Cathedral Catholic (the state’s No.1 team) & Corona Del Mar in Division 1.

  • The Heritage vs Paloma Valley football game is still a go but according to reports will be moved to Moreno Valley’s Valley View HS. 
  • The Redlands East Valley @ Elsinore football game is still a go but according to reports will be moved to Citrus Valley. 
  • The Murrieta Mesa @ Murrieta Valley football game is still a go but district officials will make a call later this afternoon according to reports.

These are all football updates

  • Saturday’s (9/10) Tahquitz at Linfield Christian game is still a go according to Lions Assistant Athletic Director Amber Young. Both campuses are closed today. 
  • Great Oak will now travel to Vista del Lago for Friday’s (9/9) non league game against the Ravens.
  • Elsinore will now play Redlands East Valley at Citrus Valley in Redlands (9/9).
  • Murrieta Mesa at Murrieta Valley is still scheduled for tonight pending further updates from administrators. 
  • Temecula Valley at Chaparral has been moved to 7pm Saturday (9/10) according to Pumas coach Andrew Ramer. 
  • Hillcrest at Lakeside has been moved to 7pm Saturday (9/10) according to reports and pending officials.
