MSJC Dance Department presents ‘Sinew’
SAN JACINTO – The Mt. San Jacinto College Dance Department presented “Sinew,” an evening of dance and discussion that highlighted the experiences of faculty member Julenda “Julie” Satow Freeman’s Native American grandmothers and the ongoing impacts of colonization Saturday, Nov. 5, at the San Jacinto Campus, 1499 N. State St., San Jacinto.The event was part of the Native American Heritage Month Celebration at MSJC.Through the interplay of past and present, eight dancers navigated a series of choreographies the interwoven ancestral experiences of colonization and the lived realities of contemporary Indigenous assimilation.The mash-up created a visceral “telling” of one family’s story, reflecting the ramifications of living in the wake of genocide, land theft an
