Vista Murrieta celebrates a second round 3-0 sweep over, who they also faced, and defeated last week in the CIF Southern Section Division 2 Finals. Valley News/David Canales photo

Vista Murrieta hosted Aliso Niguel in a rematch of their recent CIF-SS Division 2 girls’ volleyball Finals Thursday, Nov. 10, except this time it was in a CIF State tournament setting. The result was a win, like before, but better, as the Broncos downed the Wolverines 3-0 (25-10, 25-22 and 25-22), advancing to the Regional Semifinal round. Vista Murrieta will now travel Saturday, Nov. 12, to face top seed La Costa Canyon (27-12) at 6 p.m. No. 4 seed Vista Murrieta (22-10) will look to rectify a 3-1 loss earlier this season to the Mavericks.

In other CIF-State Southern California Regional girls’ volleyball matches involving area teams: No. 8 seed Orange Vista fell to No. 1 seed Marshall 3-2 in round 2 of the Division 5 brackets. Final scores posted for that match were 25-18, 20-25, 25-13, 18-25, and 15-6.
