Highway update: Major road and infrastructure construction continues in Menifee, Riverside and San Bernardino

Road work in Menifee continues as Southern California Edison trenches new power lines along Menifee Road, from Newport Road to Holland Road. Work is being performed throughout daytime and nighttime hours with lane closures in full effect during the construction. Message boards containing contact information for the project will also be placed in the project area. Work in this area is expected to continue through the middle of April.

Menifee’s Capital Improvement Project includes the Holland Road overpass and Holland Road between Hanover Road and Antelope Road will remain closed for the duration of the project, which is expected to last 18 months. For additional information, visit http://www.hollandoverpass.com.

Another Menifee Capital Improvement Project is currently in active construction on Menifee Road between Holland Road and Camino Cristal. Median work has been completed, and roadway work on this project will resume mid-April due to current weather condition delays.

Traffic signal improvement work continues for this project at Garbani and Menifee roads with temporary traffic control expected to remain in place as necessary through the middle of April.

McCall Square traffic signal work continues with the median at McCall Boulevard and Ranch Road. The construction schedule for this project has been extended and is now expected to continue through April. Traffic control will remain in place for the duration of the project.

Infrastructure work continues with the SoCal Gas Company Gas Line Installation Project at Evans Road and Lazy Creek Road. Lane closures on Matthews Road will remain in place for the next several months during daytime hours. Traffic control will be in place during active construction.

Hemet

Caltrans continues work on a $1.3 million safety project on state Route 79 in Hemet. The project will modify and upgrade a traffic signal, reconstruct and upgrade sidewalks, curb ramps and driveways to current American Disabilities Act standards at the intersection of East Latham Avenue and Route 79. Crews continue with digging, set up, and installation of foundations for signal posts. Temporary pedestrian access will be provided as field conditions allow. Use caution in and around the construction zone. Hours of operation and potential impacts to commuters and pedestrians will include Monday through Thursday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

San Jacinto

Caltrans continues work on the $4 million safety project to construct a median concrete barrier and rumble strips on state Route 79 near San Jacinto. Weather and temperature dependent. Remember to reduce speeds in the work zone. The regular construction schedule is Monday through Friday, 8 p.m. to 6:a.m. Work will take place in the median behind the k-rails. Crews will perform concrete barrier operations. Work may include saw cutting, breaking existing asphalt and excavating for the installation of a new drainage pipe. The project is expected to be complete in late summer 2023.

Lake Elsinore

Caltrans continues work on state Route 74 in Riverside County from the Riverside and Orange County border to Monte Vista Street just west of Lake Elsinore. Crews will perform rebar forming, pouring, excavation and barrier work in various locations throughout the project zone, weather permitting. There will be some daytime closures as contractors perform work from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. that will require one-way lane closures. These closures will run approximately from The Candy Store to the Orange County line. Signage indicating closure zones will be placed ahead of the work area. A flagging operation will assist in traffic control.

Palm Springs

Caltrans continues work on a $5.5 million project to construct and upgrade curb ramps to ADA standards and to modify signal and lighting systems on state Route 111 in Palm Springs, weather and temperature dependent.

Crews continue work at various locations on Route 111 from Lawrence Crossley Road to West Gateway Drive. A minimum of one lane will be open in each direction at all times.

San Bernardino

Caltrans continues operations on a culvert repair project on state Route 18 from 48 Street in San Bernardino to the state Route 138 Crestline Bridge, weather dependent. Starting Friday, April 7, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., crews will start the prep work by removing the center guardrail and placing k-rail in the area, along with placing signage and indicator markers. During these hours, the No. 1 lanes will be closed in each direction from Upper Waterman to Panorama Point. The crossovers will likely be in place starting Monday, April 10, and last until mid-August 2023.
