Two local nonprofits joined together to celebrate the summer solstice at the crack of dawn Wednesday, June 21. Anza Area Trail Town and the La Puerta Foundation served up a hardy cowboy-style breakfast at the historic Cary Ranch in Anza in preparation of a dramatic sunrise viewing, celebrating the dawning of the summer solstice and the longest day of the year.According to organizer Allison Rencke, the well-attended event featured a happening experienced nowhere else in the high country. Guests were able to see the sun peek up from over the hills to shine this day only directly onto a specific manmade indentation on a boulder.“This hollowing is believed to have been created by Cahuilla ancestors to mark the summer and winter solstices,” Rencke said.[gallery td_select_gallery
