Caltrans will begin repairs to preserve two historic bridges near Hemet and Lake Elsinore

The California Department of Transportation announced in mid-September they will begin working on a $17.9 million bridge retrofit and upgrade project on the Morrill Canyon Bridge near Elsinore and the Strawberry Creek Bridge near Mountain Center in the San Jacinto mountains. The project is an attempt to preserve the two bridges that have been a part of the regions’ history for many years. The Morrill Canyon Bridge is on state Route 74 near the Tenaja Truck Trail. The Strawberry Creek Bridge flows under Highway 74 near Idyllwild and sometimes is a fishing spot for locals. The project to help preserve the bridges was awarded to Beador Construction Company of Costa Mesa.
